District admin raids mining site, seizes heavy machinery
Ropar – A team of Rupnagar district Adminstration officers on Saturday raided a mining site and seized heavy machinery, here at village Beinharanear Nurpur Bedi. A team headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rupnagar, reached village Beinhara to investigate the matter of unabated illegal mining and seized seven heavy vehicles, which were allegedly used for the illegal mining. Notably, village Beinhara falls under Nurpur Bedi block of district Rupnagar and some residents of this village along with RTI Activist Dinesh Chadha jointly raised the issue of illegal mining at village Beinhara.On Thursday, they lodged a written complaint with the deputy commissioner Rupnagar and demanded immediate steps to ban illegal mining at Beinhara. In their complaint, the complaints revealed that only manual mining is permissible in a quarry situated at Beinhara. However, the contractors were using all type of heavy machinery for digging up the riverbed, alleged Dinesh Chadha. Taking an action on the complaint, the Rupnagar deputy commissioner Gurneet Tej constituted a committee under the headship of Rupnagar ADC Lakhmir Singh. On Saturday, Rupnagar ADC Lakhmir Singh, SP Detective Ravinder Singh, Sub-divisional Magistrate Chamkaur Sahib Ruhi Dug, General Manager Mining Chaman Lal, tehsildar Anandpur Sahib Surinderpal Singh and Neb tehsildar Amandeep Chawla along with several other officials of mining department reached the spot to probe the matter.The officials, who paid a visit at village Beinhara on Saturday, were dumbfounded after looking at deep wells developed in the riverbed due to illegal mining. ADC Lakhmir Singh admitted that from the facts available, it appears that the mining with the help of heavy machinery was in progress at Beinhara. He further told that his team has collected all the facts and a detailed report will soon be submitted to the Rupnagar deputy commissioner. The reporters present on the occasion, also saw a number of tress lying uprooted. In addition to this, no pole for ascertaining the limits of mining area was visible in the riverbed. It was clearly visible that all the rules were allegedly violated by the contractor. RTI Activist Dinesh Chadha alleged that without the involvement of mining officials, no contractor could dare to dig the riverbed upto 30-40.He alleged that the illegal mining at Beinhara was in progress only because of the deep complicity between the mining officials and the contractors. He demanded that a police case should be registered against the negligent officials whereas the contract of mining site at Beinhara should be cancelled immediately.
