Anganwadi workers protest outside SDPO office for salary hike. All India Anaganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (AITUC) staged a protest and hold a rally outside the DAC complex and burnt te effigy of the Punjab Government, few months ago. The protesters demanded that besides providing benefits of social security, Rs 3,000 pension and gratuity be given to them. They demanded that the recommendations of the 45th labour conference be implemented, workers be brought under the minimum wages ambit and Rs 18,000 to workers and Rs 10,000 to helpers be paid. In favour of their demand for pay hike, they also submitted a memorandum, addressed to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister, to the CDPO.
Charanjit Kaur said that the union had beenn writing to the government since a month to solve this problem with mutual understanding, but the state government had tuned deaf and dumb towards their demands. The union had warned the government that if their demands would not be accepted and the government would not reconsider its decision they would go on warpath and in gherao the residences of all the MLAs.
