Hoshiarpur, October 12
The first ever Balika Manch of Punjab has been established at Hoshiarpur, which would help curb incidents of eve-teasing and domestic violence to school going girls.
Under ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ scheme of Women and Child Development Ministry, the ‘Balika Manch’ has been established at Government Senior Secondary School, Khadkan in Hoshiarpur.Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal said that the manch would prove to be a great platform for the all round development of girls as girls could report any incident of domestic violence in their home to the ‘manch’.
The DC said that Balika Manch would be replicated in all other government high and senior secondary schools of the district. He disclosed that only the girl students would be included in the manch, whose convenor would be a teacher. He said that officials and staff of the Health, Education, Police, Women & Child Development departments and the District Education Officers would keep a liaison with the manch. “The police and education departments would exhort the school girls to report the incidents of eve-teasing without any fear to the manch for action”, he said.
“It was noticed that due to societal and peer pressure, the girls are not able to share such incidents, hence the role of the education and the police to make them feel safe and secure”, he added.Earlier, the DC also inaugurated an Infant Protection Home (Panghura) at the Government Hospital, Hoshiarpur and said that no enquiry would be made in respect of anyone placing an orphaned child in the ‘Panghura’ which would act as a boon for orphaned children.
Ujwal said that such children would be sent to Nari Niketan after necessary medication and vaccination, so as to ensure that the interested couples could adopt them legally. EOM
