Following a special drive, five gangsters notorious for looting luxury cars on highways and committing robberies were arrested by Jalandhar Rural Police here on Saturday. The police also recovered large quantity of arms from their possession. The gang was led by Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, who was the mastermind of Nabha jail break and Chanpreet Singh alias ‘Channa gang’.Addressing a press conference, Inspector General of Police Zone-II, Jalandhar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that a team led SP (Investigation) Balkar Singh, DSP (investigation) Surinder Mohan got a major success when Inspector Harinder Singh, incharge CIA-I Staff arrested five gangsters of Gurpreet Singh Sekhon and Chanpreet Singh alias Channa gang from Chak Kalan village in Nakodar.The accused have been identified as Kala Singh (36), a resident of Gumti Kalan village in Bhatinda, Jaswinder Singh Kabaddi (25) and Bhupinder Singh alias Bhinda (25) from Meripur village in Sultanpur Lodhi district Kapurthala, Daljit Singh alias Lali (22), a resident of Kothaguru village in Bathinda and Jaspreet Singh alias Jassa (26) from Padhiana village in Jalandhar.
The police recovered a 7.65 bore pistolalongwith five live cartridges, a 315 bore pistol alongwith three live cartridges, one 12 bore DBBL Gun alongwith 10 live cartridges and one white colored EON Car bearing fake registration number plate. A case under section 392, 395,379-B, 482,148,149,120-B IPC, 25 Arms Act was registered in police station sadar Nakodar.IG Shukla said that on the instigation of Gurpreet Singh Sekhon and Chanpreet Singh alias Channa, the arrested gangsters had hatched a conspiracy to release one gangster namely Ramandeep Singh alias Rummy Mashana, a resident of Mashana in Bathinda from police custody while he was to be produced in the court.
He said Ramandeep is facing around 28 cases of murder, snatching, looting, intent to murder and dacoities at various police stations of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and other states. “A month ago, Jaswinder Singh along with the other gangsters had planned to attack the police party and snatch the pistol from the police officials while Ramandeep was being produced in the court and then drop him at Moga. In the past, they made three attempts to free Ramandeep but failed”, he added.The IG said that a number of cases have been registered against the five accused in various police stations. “During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that accused Jaswinder Singh alias Kabaddi was lodged in Kapurthala Jail for 23 months. While in the jail, he came in contact with Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, a resident of Mudki, who was the mastermind behind the Nabha Jail breakthrough”, he said.
Shukla said that since then Gurpreet Singh Sekhon along with his accomplice gangster Chanpreet Singh alias Channa, a resident of Gardhiwala in Hoshiarpur who was also undergoing sentence in Kapurthala Jail were getting their work done through Jaswinder Singh alias Kabaddi. “Many more gangsters are also part of this gang and investigation was on”, he said.
