Phagwara – Amid treacherous conflict between two communities, around 300 FIRs have been registered on people involved in the disturbance in Phagwara since last few days. Even more, 33 persons identified by name in the reports, the police are failed to arrest culprits under Dalit label.Phagwara Police had managed to arrest four Hindu leaders under attempt to murder charge, but despite of cross cases registered the police is using soft hands against Dalits. A Dalit leader on the demand of anonymity alleged police of not arresting Lok Insaf Party’s Dalit leader Jarnail Nangal, as his name is also cited in FIR registered by the police.Inspite of having more than 2,200 personnel deployed at Phagwara and DGP personal review meeting regarding this conflict. The Phagwara Police are playing a safe game. FIRs have been registered under Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 295A (hurting religious sentiments), 392 (robbery), 353 (assault), 186, 427, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Arms Act and National Highways Act.However, the city remains peaceful but tension is keeping administration the toes. Local markets and shops stay closed and barely a person could be located in the city. Police are conducting flag marches time by time to keep the situation under control and to ensure peace and harmony among both communities. Meanwhile, internet and SMS services in four districts remained suspended for Monday. Apart from this, in the far sight of peril, the government has deployed heavy security forces in all four districts, SSP confirmed that forces have been deployed for safety purpose only.
