Punjab Police Inspector posted in Organised Crime Control Unit (OCCU) Bikram Brar, who was directly leading the operation on ground in which infamous gangsters Vicky Gounder and his two close aides including Prema Lahoria were killed, has now received life threat from the slain gangsters’ followers. The threat, which is all about taking revenge of the killings, has been posted on a facebook page active in the name of Vicky Gounder Sarawan Bodla. Writing in Punjabi, the account holder writes (in Punjabi): “Sab veera te bhena nu Sat Sri Akal. Aa jo yaari lakgadari kar gya vikram brar sade veera naal enu bahut hi jald veera kol bhej dita jauga. A sada vaada (promise) aa sade Vicky, Preme te Budha veer nal. Jo ehna ne kita bahut mada kita. Asi badla bahut jaldi lwange.”

Notably, earlier too these gangsters had issued a threat to the then Bathinda SSP Swapan Sharma and his batchmate Mohali SSP Kuldeep Chahal for killing their members, Shera Khubban and Devinder Bambiha in two separate encounters. Taking no chance, state DGP Suresh Arora has beefed the security of his subordinate with also providing them bullet proof SUVs. Brar, who joined the police service as an ASI (probationer) in 2001, has led to the arrest of various gangsters in the past including the notorious one Gurpreet Singh Sekhon. His elder brother is currently posted as AIG in Vigilance Bureau and father was also Punjab Police Officer.

Brar refutes allegation of “fake encounter”

A day after one Gurbhej Singh Sandhu, who claimed to be the maternal uncle of Gounder, after his killing in the encounter with the Punjab police on January 26, accused Inspector of cheating upon Gounder and executing a fake encounter, Inspector Bikram Brar on Monday termed the allegations linking him with slain gangster Vicky Gounder as baseless and absurd. “There is no truth at all in the allegation that the encounter was fake and that I had called Gounder to the place where he was killed. I didn’t know him personally. Moreover, I never studied at Jalandhar and have no connection whatsoever with Sports College there as Sandhu is alleging,” said Brar over phone. Surprised to learn about the allegations, Brar said he was 10 years elder than Gounder so how come both could be classmates, he asked.

The said maternal uncle of Gounder had alleged at the cremation of Gounder at his native village Sarawan Bodla on Sunday that Brar and Gounder were in negotiations over the latter’s willingness to surrender before the police. But he was trapped and killed in a fake encounter, it was alleged. Brar, giving explanation, claimed that the encounter lasted about 20 minutes and the first information in this regard was given to Khuiyan Sarwar police station near Abohar and within minutes to Rajasthan Police.
