SAD district unit flays Jalandhar PC for questioning MLA’s authority
Jalandhar – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) district urban unit leaders on Wednesday strongly condemned Jalandhar Police Commissioner Parveen Kumar Sinha for questioning the role of SAD MLA Pawan Kumar Tinu in checking overloaded sand tippers on highways. SAD MLA from Adampur and party spokesman Pawan Kumar Tinu had checked illegal sand tippers plying on the highways three days ago. After the Akali legislator stopped the tippers, Police Commissioner Parveen Kumar Sinha warned him from doing so. Sinha has also directed the MLA that stopping and checking the tippers was the prerogative of the police and that he should abstain from leading this campaign. In a press note, SAD district urban chief Kulwant Singh Mannan said that it was wrong on the part of Police Commissioner Parveen Kumar Sinha to question MLA Pawan Tinu’s authority. “This incident has proved that illegal mining was going on blatantly under Congress government with the active support of police. The police and the administration has rather got instructions from the Congress government to intimidate all those who were trying to speak against them,” he said. Mannan also said that if any accident took place because of overloaded tippers, they would register an FIR against the concerned police officials.
He also said that those Congress leaders who used to flay SAD-BJP for illegal sand mining and its skyrocketing prices were now finding it hard to face the public. Mannan supported by ex-SAD district president Gurcharan Singh Channi, ex-MLA Sarabjit Singh Makkar, Baljeet Singh Neelamahal, former Senior Deputy Mayor Kamaljit Singh Bhatia, Gurdeep Singh Nagra, Paramjit Singh Reru, Amarjit Singh Mitha and Amarjit Singh Kishanpura said that they would not tolerate any high-handedness of the police against them under Congress rule.
