DP Correspondent, Jalandhar, August 18, School driver, accomplice arrested with 2.18 quintal poppy husk. A driver of Cambridge School kapurthala along with another accused was arrested for smuggling 2.18 quintal of poppy husk along with Rs 40,000 cash from Maqsudan on Friday. The duo was arrested by a police party during routine patrolling near village Patar Kalan. One of the accused, who was walking and carrying a white coloured polythene bag on his head tried to run away after noticing the police. SHO Maqsudan, Inspector Jaswinder Singh along with police party arrested the duo and recovered 2.18 quintal of poppy husk, Rs 40,000 cash and a Bajaj Platina motorcycle bearing number PB-09-Y-2538 from their possession.Addressing a press conference, SSP Jalandhar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the accused was identified as Jaspal Singh alias Bhaia (38), a resident of Pattar Kalan under Maqsudan police station in Jalandhar. “The police recovered 10 kg of poppy husk from the possession of Jaspal”, he said. “The second accused was indentified as Hardip Singh (30), a resident of Mainma from Kapurthala district. Hardip was working as a driver with Cambridge School, Kapurthala”, the SSP said.Bhullar said that during investigation, Jaspal revealed that he used to bring heavy consignments of poppy husk from Hardip Singh and sell the same by reaping huge margins. “Jaspal informed the police that he could help the police in arresting Hardip and ensure huge recovery of poppy husk from him. A police party reached village Pattar Kalan, where we spotted Hardip Singh riding a motorcycle and carrying another 10 kg poppy husk”, he added.Later, the police party searched the house of Hardip Singh and recovered 11 plastic bags of poppy husk, each weighing 18 kg. “A total of 2.18 quintal of poppy husk was seized from the possession of the duo. Apart from this, Rs 40,000 was also recovered from Hardip which he had earned by selling poppy husk”, the police said.Notably, Hardip came in contact with a driver Rana who was a resident of TV Tower in Jalandhar. Rana knew one Harshad, a resident of Jammu & Kashmir. About five months ago, Hardip has brought a consignment of 20 Kg of poppy husk from Harshad. “Hardip was running drug business in connivance with Harshad. We are verifying the address of Harshad and efforts were on to arrest him”, the SSP said.
