Patiala: Department of Punjab Historical Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala organised Dr Ganda Singh Memorial Lecture at Senate Hall, on Thursday. Dr Harish Puri, Professor (Retd) Guru Nanak Dev University was the speaker who delivered his lecture on “The Ghadar Movement and Contemporary Revolutionary Nationalist Struggle in Bengal and Maharashtra : Exploring the Links and Distinctive Features”. Prof Indu Banga, Professor (Retd) Panjab University, Chandigarh was Guest of Honour. Dr Puri discussed the role of Punjab peasants in the Ghadar movement. He highlighted similarities and dissimilarities between the functioning of Ghadarites and Revolutionaries of Bengal and Maharashtra. Panel agreed over the military training,terrorist activities and proper preparation before implementation of their plans. Ghadarites accepted and respected faith of all as they were living in West, so they didn’t criticize the use of foreign products. Peasantry dominated Ghadar Movement but young who were not from peasant class participated in freedom movement in both Bengal and Maharashtra. Dr Puri appreciated the role of Ghadarites who awakened the rest of country for freedom struggle.
