Chandigarh – Committing traffic violations or crimes in one corner or another, residents will now not be able to escape from the watchful eyes of police. The driving license of a person will keep his crime record. Punjab has initiated a new project of registration of vehicles and driving license, which will be interlinked all the RTOs across India. All databases of RTOs will be centralised and will be available for the common man on his mobile. If a vehicle operator commits a traffic-related crime anywhere in the country, it will be recorded in the data of his license, digitally. This project has started working in Mohali and process is going on in Patiala and within a few months, all districts will be connected with this project. Soon, Punjab will be included in a few other states, where there will be no need of touts or agents for vehicle registrations and driving license as everything is going to be online. Under the name of Vahan and Sarathi project, an updated version has been introduced, in which one can able to apply for registration of his vehicle and driving or learning license, sitting anywhere in the country or at his home, online. The applicant need only visit the office for capturing the biometrics such as signature, thumb impressions, photographs and for verification of the documents submitted.
The new system will make the procedure easy like the passport offices. The Union government has introduced it and states have been asked to implement it. All services will be web-based. Anybody will be able to know about the data of any vehicle and detail of person having driving license, across the country. Whenever the vehicle operator will commit any traffic crime like overspeeding, Overloading, jumping of red-light, drunken driving or any other, each and every crime will be recorded in his account number, provided on his license or registration card.According to rules, if a person is found with a number of complaints or habitual violator, further strong action will be taken against him. The system will also prevent the vehicle owner from evading payment of taxes in the place where the vehicle is originally registered. Sources in the transport department said that the process is going on in Bathinda and Amritsar, Swiftly and will be completed in two months.
