Chandigarh: Punjab government’s efforts to control Tobacco/Nicotine will be showcased in the World Conference to he held in Liverpool, UK from October 26 to 29. Two oral presentations and two poster presentations submitted by the Health Department has been accepted for the conference, informed Health Minister Surjit Kumar Jyani.
He also said that Dr Rakesh Gupta, State Programme Officer, Tobacco Control has been deputed to make presentations in the conference.
Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare Vini Mahajan elaborated that the first oral presentation is about the “Impact of ban on smokeless tobacco products on tobacco consumption behavior in Punjab” whereas second presentation will be highlighting how the Pictorial Health Warning on Cigarettes Pack is highly effective in thinking about quitting. The two poster presentation will show the “Impact of Effective Monitoring and Regulatory Mechanisms on Vendors’ Compliance to Ban on Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems in Punjab, India” and a “Snapshot of Tobacco use among adult population in Punjab, India using GATS protocol.”
