AAP is again ready for the Lok Sabha elections-2019. Its founder and Chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal is
filling the gap in Punjab unit which damaged the party internally. Return of MLA Jai Kishan Singh Rodi to the
party fold is a recent example of it
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) which was considered an underdog won four Lok Sabha seats from Punjab in 2014 general elections of the total 13 and marked its strong presence in the state. It again fought Assembly elections and became the second largest party. Despite bickering in its ranks damage-control exercise is on before the ensuing Lok Sabha polls and bring back the rebels into the party fold. Its founder and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is trying to solve the differences in Punjab unit. Return of the MLA Jai Kishan Singh Rodi to the party fold is an example, said Garshankar MLA Harpal Singh Cheema, who is leader of opposition also. Cheema shared his views
and strategy for the coming Lok Sabha elections with Daily Post.
Q: Party MLA JKS Rodi has leave Khaira group, when other few more will come to party fold?
A: Party leaders are in continuous touch with other party leaders who had some differences and they will probably be returned soon. Party senior leaders are in touch with MP Dharamvir Gandhi and with few others.
Q: Is there any planning of parachute candidate for Lok Sabha election?
A: Yes, there can be any star candidate for these upcoming elections; we are in touch with few celebs. But of course, party will give chance to dedicated and hard work candidates.
Q: In last Lok Sabha elections, you (AAP) were underestimated before elections but you won four out of thirteen, what is your target this time?
A: We are expecting more seats this time and party is strong in Majha belt and progressing in other belts. It’s a fact that liquor and drugs is major problem in Punjab and used in election time but people will definitely go with AAP as people wants positive change.
Q: Do you think Punjab Democratic alliance of Khaira group can harm AAP in upcoming elections?
A: No, definitely not. Khaira is neither a threat to the party nor his alliance. He got everything from the party i.e. MLAship, leader of opposition and now criticizing his own party. His ideology is totally different and not matches with the party policies.
Q:As retired High court Judge Justice Jora singh joined AAP, can we expect few more big names that will join party before elections?
A: Yes, definitely. Party leadership wants to bring people who actually want to work for the betterment of the people of Punjab.
Q:How do you see your competition in Punjab?
A: Akali-BJP alliance is not a major threat for AAP. In sacrilege and firing incidents, the then ruling party did not take any action and people of Punjab are in anger which they will show it in elections. On other side, Congress party is totally failed to fulfill its promises it did during election time. Drugs, unemployment, pollution is a major threat to
the state and farmers loan waiver scheme is not implemented by government in true spirit.
Q: Do you think EVM is safe voting method?
A:Although, it is being used in India but personally I think paper voting is the best technique. Yes, there can be tempering. Even Germany, who invented EVM, has banned it and few other countries too, why not in India.
Q:Now ultimately, who will take decisions of Punjab in AAP, which was the major issue which created in differences in party?
A:Core committee is formed in Punjab which was earlier also in Khaira’s time. This will allocate the tickets to the aspirants, will take major decisions related to Punjab, will do appointment etc. with either unanimously or with majority. But with the final decision of Political Affairs Committee (PAC).
