Ferozepur: Rural Development Department is in serious financial crisis as it has failed to pay salaries in time and did not pay electricity bill for several months. The electricity connection has now been snapped.
The officials of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) disconnected the electricity connection to the Block Development and Panchayats Officer (BDPO) office on Friday.
When the Daily Post contacted the BDPO Ferozepur, Surjit Singh he said that he was not aware of the disconnection of the connection, but accepted that they could not pay the bill in time and had been getting late due to the non-availability funds with the office.
Talking to the Daily Post the BDPO said that they had been facing a very tough time as the department had not sanctioned funds since along.
He said that he had demanded an amount of Rs.70 lakh, but the department paid Rs 11 lakhs only. They had to manage the funds for the salary and other expenses from the other funds.
Surjit Singh told that the many of the employees could not get the salary for the half of the year due to lack of funds. The condition of all other offices of the department is not different.
