Election Commissioner of India A K Joti on Monday said that to ensure ‘error free voter lists’ with correct voter’s name, address and photographs, the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would be provided with tablets and smart phones so that all documents of the voters could be checked. Joti said that making voter lists was a lengthy paper work, where chances of error were high.
“By working on tablets and smart phones, the BLOs would be able to check the documents of the applicants on the spot. Besides, this entire process would be centrally monitored and updated with the respective District Electoral Officers,” he said. ECI along with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) V K Singh and District Electoral Officer Kamal Kishor Yadav was here to inspect the newly made Sewa Kendra and Bhagwanpura polling station in Model Town locality.
The ECI said that the Election Commission of India was mulling the need to provide the facility of getting voter card made, deleting name from voter list and objections in the voter lists to the public at the Sewa Kendras. He also urged the locals to approach the BLOs to get their voter cards made and get changes done, if any in their voter cards.
“Draft roll of Punjab state has been published on September 7 while claims and objections will be obtained till October 7. After verification, the final roll will be published on January 2, 2017,” he said. Singh said that all efforts are being made to ensure error-free electoral roll in the state.
