Chandigarh:Newly elected member of legislature assembly from Khem Karan, Sukhpal Bhullar has said that every Congress MLA wishes to use the red beacon on his car but because as the cabinet has decided not to use it, all have gone quite.
Bhullar was reportedly seen using the red beacon atop his car after Punjab Cabinet decided in its first meeting to end the VIP culture and propagated no use of red beacon by ministers and MLAs on their vehicles.
Talking to daily post-Bhullar said that the people of his constituency want him to use the beacon, whichever color is allowed to MLA’s as per the guidelines and there is no harm in doing so as they have to travel a lot and beacon helps when one is stuck in traffic jams.
“I think every MLA wishes it but none is openly speaking on the issue. I see no harm in using it and if the constitution allows us why can’t we use it, on the top of it, it does not add to the expenses and no extra burden is put on the economy or even common man, so why can’t we use it?”, said Bhullar.
He also said that he will soon be meeting the chief minister of Punjab Capt Amarinder Singh and will seek permission to use the beacon. On being asked that whether, he reached Vidhan Sabha with the red beacon atop his car, he said that he deliberately used another vehicle to reach Vidhan Sabha as it would have invited controversy.
