FEROZEPUR: The Mallanwala police booked 13 senior leaders of the Sharomani Akali Dal, including former MLA Joginder Singh Jindu and district president of the SAD Ferozepur (rural) Avtar Singh Zira in the Mallanwala firing and stone-pelting incident of Wednesday under different sections of the IPC and the Arms Act when they were asking the officials to issue the NOC to the candidates and allow them to file their nomination forms for the MC elections of Mallanwala and Makhu. The Mallanwala police registered a case under Sections 307, 506,120-B, 148 and 149 of the IPC and 25/27/54/59 of the Arms Act on Wednesday as per the statement recorded by Sat Pal, son of Rajinder Kumar, a resident of Ward 9, Mallanwala Khas. In his statement Sat Pal alleged that Vardev Singh Mann, former MLA Joginder Singh Jindu, district president of SAD Ferozepur (rural) Avtar Singh Zira and BJP leader Jugraj Singh Katora were in a Fortuner vehicle (CHO1VF-2622) and other activists of the SAD and the BJP attacked him when he was returning home along with his mother after filing the nomination papers. He alleged that all these people started pelting stones and opened fire at him but he escaped after running away from the spot. ASI Narinder Singh said that the police had booked Vardev Singh Mann, Joginder Singh Jindu, Avtar Singh Zira, Balwinder Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Manmohan Singh, Jagmohan Singh both sons of Sham Singh, Gurlal Singh, Joga Singh, Anoop Singh, BJP leader Jugraj Singh Katora, Kuldip Singh and gunman Dhiraj Singh under Sections 307, 506,120-B, 148,149, IPC, and 25/27,5459 of the Arms Act at Mallanwala. It is pertinent to mention here that in this incident SAD leader Avtar Singh Zira was injured and many vehicles of SAD leaders and workers were badly damaged in firing, stone pelting and brick-batting as a mob of Congress workers allegedly assaulted SAD leaders in the presence of a police force at Mallanwala.
