Due to ‘anti-party’ activities, Fatehgarh Sahib district unit of BJP last year had recommended six-year expulsion of Municipal Council Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib president Ashok Dhiman (64) from the party, but on Wednesday he was appointed as BJP Sirhind unit president. The Mandal presidents of Sirhind, Mandi Gobindgarh and Khamano units were elected for three years on Wednesday in presence of BJP district president Pardeep Garg.
Puneet Goyal was elected Mandi Gobindgarh Mandal president of BJP, while Bachan Lal was elected as Khamano Mandal president.
It may be mentioned here that when district BJP leaders in April last year recommended Ashok Dhiman’s expulsion from the party, he had challenged the decision of the party leaders including the-then district BJP president Rakesh Gupta. While recommending his expulsion, the party leaders had maintained that Dhiman had violated the whip issued by party’s high command for the president election of Municipal Council Sirhind-Fatehgarh Sahib but he had claimed that no whip was issued.
The rift in BJP came to fore last year at the time of MC president election last year when Ashok Dhiman supported SAD Halqa in-charge Didar Singh Bhatti’s candidate for the post of president while other BJP councillors and BJP leadership was not in favour of it.
