A month after the fake heavy vehicle licence scam was unearthed, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police and the District Transport Officer (DTO) have been left passing the buck while no action was taken against those indicted. While the police categorically refused to probe the scam, the DTO was yet to initiate a fresh inquiry into the matter. The case pertains to heavy vehicle driving licence issued to 177 persons on the basis of fake documents. The fake heavy vehicle driving licence scam was unearthed in the month of July, after which DTO Jalandhar R P Singh forwarded the names of 177 people to Commissioner of Police for further action. However, the police authorities have now send a letter to the DTO asking him to solve the case on their own.
Talking to Daily Post, DTO R P Singh said that he was yet to receive the letter sent by the Commissioner of Police. When asked that if he would initiate a fresh inquiry into the case, the DTO said, “I am waiting for the letter and only then a decision could be taken.” Following the scam, a local officer Pradeep Singh was shifted to Kapurthala while another employee Param from Smart Chip Company was asked to resign. It is pertinent to mention here that the police authorities pointed out that the letter that was sent by the DTO seeking police action was ‘unsigned’ forcing them to send it back to the officer concerned. Moreover, the police authorities also sought some more documents to probe the scam. Interestingly, the police had called those indicted in the scam to join the probe but after a month, they have again asked the DTO to probe the matter on his own.
The fake heavy vehicle driving scam came to the fore, after a sudden rush of applicants was witnessed in the month of May, June and July this year. The applicants of the heavy driving license had applied from State Institute of Automotive and Driving Skill at Mahuana village at Muktsar. Notably, the applicants of the heavy driving licence have to apply at State Institute of Automotive and Driving Skill at Mahuana village at Muktsar for procuring the license and get the training certificate. The DTO authorities were also of the view that once the police initiated some action more names could emerge in the scam, the probe of which was left midway now.
