Chandigarh: Taking suo motu over the prevailing situation of the Faridkot Jail, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Punjab government. The notice was issued by Justice S S Saron. In a letter written to Acting Chief Justice S J Vazifdar by Justice Lisa Gill it has been stated that the conditions prevailing the Faridkot Jail are bad.
The notice was issued by Justice S S Saron. Justice Lisa Gill, who is inspecting judge of Faridkot, had visited the Faridkot Jail on March 17 and 18. Justice Gill came to know after random blood checking that 251 inmates of the jail are found HIV positive infected.Justice Lisa Gill stated in the letter that the treatment of high number of inmates is difficult and because there is no facility for checking the blood samples in Faridkot and these samples are being sent to Bathinda. Most of the jail inmates are drug addicts because the drugs are available to them inside the jail. The CCTV cameras installed in the jail are in bad shape.
Even some children kept in the observation home are also found to be drug addicts. Not only this, one child was found to be HIV positive. Justice Gill said that these jail inmates can be treated if facility for blood tests is made available and done on time. Besides, Justice Gill also said that high definition CCTV cameras should be installed in the jail to keep vigil smuggling inside the jail.
