Ferozepur police have arrested a farmer for growing opium crop. Sub Inspector Jatinder Singh said that he along with a few other cops were on patrolling duty, on Friday. During patrolling, he received information from a source that Balkar Singh resident of Karian Pehlwan village, who has constructed his residence in his fields, has grown opium crop at his residence.
The police party immediately raided the spot and found that accused had grown 60 opium plants, the Sub Inspector added. The police seized the plants which weighed about 4.255 kg and arrested the farmer at the spot. Later, a case under various sections of the NDPS Act was registered against Balakar Singh, resident of Karian Pehlwanat village in Ferozepur Sadar police station and initiated the further investigation.It is pertinent to mention that the crop of opium plants is banned in Punjab.
