Jalandhar: Following mounting heavy debt, a Jalandhar based farmer committed suicide at his tubewell on Wednesday.
Khushwant Singh (45), a resident of Musapur village in the district committed suicide after he failed to pay a loan of Rs 20 lakh taken by him. He was cremated on Thursday.
The farmer was survived by his wife and two children. Family sources maintained that Khushwant was disturbed over poor return of his potato crop. “Though he had a good potato crop but poor market rate added to his woes and committed suicide”, his family members said. He has taken 30 acre land on contract and was dependent on farming for running his house.DP
