Ferozepur: Malwa and Majha were disconnected on Friday as hundred of farmers of Basti Namdev village and surroundig areas staged a protest at Hari Ke Barrage. Due to protest traffic on both sides remained stranded for hours.
Earlier the farmer unions started a protest at Police station Makhu on Thursday, and demanded cancelation of fake FIRs against farmers of Basti Namdev in zira sub division. The farmers unions announced that they will end the protest unless their demands are met by the administration.
Kissan Sangharsh Committee president Satnam Singh Pannu, General Secretary Krantikari Bharti Kissan Union Baldev Singh Zira and Kashmir Singh Arayianwala president of Punjab Kissan Sabha said that the administration had deserted the farmers who had worked hard for 60-years to make the land fertile and registered fakes cases against them.
They added that when they staged a dharna on January 6, SHO Makhu had registered cases against the protesters under the section 283/188, which was totally illegal and unjustified.
They opined that DSP Zira had assured them last time that the cases will be cancelled but even after almost a month not even single false case has been cancelled.
