Jalandhar: FCI Workers Union on Thursday staged a protest against the FCI authorities for handing over the job of the employees to a private contractor in Kartarpur town of Jalandhar. The FCI workers union staged a massive protest on the office premises following which the contractor had to leave the venue. The protest was supported by Pendu Mazdoor Union state leader Kashmir Singh Ghugshor.
Addressing the union members, FCI state president Karnail Singh Patiala said that the Modi government was pursuing the agenda of privatization in the country, which would affect the livelihood of scores of government employees. They said that while FCI was feeding the country but the centre government has decided to hire private contractors for 51 Railway Heads, which would directly the FCI employees. “As part of this decision, the private contractors had reached the FCI offices but following our protest, they had to go empty handed,” they added.
Kulwant Singh Para demanded that the tenders filled by the private contractors should be annulled while the FCI workers on contract should be regularised. “Instead jobs should be provided to the unemployed children in the FCI,” he said.
Notably, the protest came to a halt only when Tehsildar Jalandhar, Naib Tehsildar Kartarpur and FCI officials agreed to address their demands. The FCI union members said that if their demands were not met, the FCI officials would have to face massive protest.
