Amritsar: Owing to the fear of being picked up by the special task force (STF) team, a number of noted gangsters, who were in the police net but were released either on parole or otherwise, have started knocking at the doors of political leaders for help.
According to sources, many noted criminals, who were involved in either gang wars or were responsible for creating panic among the general public with their nefarious designs, had been sent behind bars before the assembly polls as a precautionary measure. However, they were let off after the elections. The STF was likely to arrest them again on the ground of pending criminal cases.
Two dreaded gangsters of the area, who were usually responsible for creating scare among the general public are kamal kumat alias Bori and Ranbir Singh alias Rena Kandowalia. Though Bori had been arrested in a criminal case some time back before announcement of elections, Rana was allegedly picked up just last month.
Sources, however, reveal that STF toiled hard to arrest Rana. However, since he had been nabbed just as a precautionary measure in view of assembly elections, he was later let off.
Sources further reveal that STF team first interrogated Bori, who made sensational revelations. Bori had reportedly established relations with a few prominent political figures of two rival parties who were shielding him.
However, when he was named in a murder case, STF took no time to arrest and send him behind the bars. Since assembly elections, at the time of Bori’s arrest were at hand, therefore, no political leader came forward to protect him.
It has also been revealed that for procuring services of his political bosses, Bori used to pay them hefty amounts by way of donations.
The Inspector General (IG) of police, Amritsar, Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, however, added that since the two gangsters had admitted to their relations with some noted international smugglers too, hence, police was contemplating to nab them once again so that access to the international gangs of criminals could be made.
He stated that the department was just waiting for march 11 next, the day counting of votes was to take place in Punjab so that they were not forced to succumb to any political pressure thereafter.
