Fatehgarh Sahib: SGPC run Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib’s continued it is mega celebrations to mark Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary with the bhog of Sri Sehaj Path. State agriculture minister Tota Singh was chief guest of the function. In his address he encouraged and motivated the students to connect with their roots. The cabinet minister said that we should follow the teachings of the first Sikh master and inculcate His principles in our life. He said that Guru Nanak’s teachings have a Universal appeal and we should take every step possible to promote and spread the word of Guru Nanak to the farthest corners of the world.
The university VC Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia said that although Guru Nanak Dev’s Gurpurab is a day to celebrate and enjoy, we must introspect and ask ourselves that how much of Guru Nanak’s principles and teachings we have adopted in our lives. We as a society are degrading to the same evils and superstitions from which Guru Nanak tried to get us out of centuries ago. He laid stress on Guru Nanak’s principle of ‘Naam Japo, Kirat Karo, Vandh Chhako’ and said that although remembering the name of the almighty is very important, we must not forget the other two pillars of Sikhism that is working hard with honesty and integrity and doing charity to the needy. Former IAS Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Chairman, Milkfed Corporation, Punjab said that all round efforts are needed to communicate the message of Universal brotherhood found in Guru Granth sahib Ji at the world level.
Earlier in the day, students and faculty of the University took part in the Nagar Kirtan and recited hymns in the praise of Guru Nanak Dev .
