Hoshiarpur: Four armed men looted Rs 12 lakh at gun point in broad day light from Punjab National Bank (PNB) Bullowal branch in Hoshiarpur district on Wednesday.
While the PNB bank situated in the bazaar was sans a security guard, the theft incident was recorded in the CCTV camera installed in the bank. The incident took place at around 3 pm.
It was learnt that four persons went inside the bank and held captive the employees and the customers at gun point. One of their accomplice kept standing outside in an i-20 car.
Soon after the incident, a team led by SSP Hoshiarpur Kuldeep Singh Chahal reached the bank and took in possession the CCTV footage. The SSP said that special teams were made and nakas were put up to nab the four accused. “CCTV footage would give vital links to nab the accused”, he said.
The SSP also said that though repeated instructions were being issued to the banks to hire security guards but the bank officials were ignoring the directives. It was learnt that the Hoshiarpur police might initiate action against the PNB bank staff for not deputing a security guard at the bank, leading to the broad day light loot.
