Sangrur: Sangrur Police claimed to have achieved a a major breakthrough in Longowal’s young financier Hardev Singh alias Happy’s broad daylight murder by gangster Dalwinder Singh alias Babli Randhawa and his companions with the arrest of four more accused in the case, taking the total figure of those arrested to five as gangster Babli had already surrendered in court and was now in police remand till March 8.
While revealing this here on Thursday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Inderbir Singh said that gangster Babli along with his members of the gang had shot dead financier Happy in broad daylight on February 16 in main bazar of Longowal town. He said that after committing the crime, Babli and his companions fled from the scene and a case under Sections 302,148 and 149 of the IPC and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of Arms Act at Longowal police station was registered against Babli and others.
He said that the case was registered on the statement of the father of deceased against gangster Dalwinder Singh alias Babli son of Bikar Singh, a resident of the Randhawa Patti in Longowal, Varinder Singh alias Mattu son of Amrik Singh, resident of the Randhawa Patti Longowal, Saraj Khan alias Suraja son of Major Khan, resident of the Randhawa Patti Longowal, Gurpreet Singh alias Nursi son of Pal Singh, resident of Loha Khera and Amandeep Singh alias Amnaa son of Surjit Singh, resident of the Randhawa Patti Longowal, and after that the police had set up a Special investigation Team (SIT) headed by Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Sewa Singh Malhi to nab the accused.
He claimed that as the police started conducting raids at the different hideouts of these accused and the pressure increased the main kingpin gangster Babli preferred to surrender before the court and the court sent him in police remand till March 8.
Inderbir Singh further said that during the interrogation of Babli, one illegal 7.65 Italy-made pistol with one empty magazine along with 10 live cartridges were recovered so far. He claimed that in Mastuana Sahib from Chagal road during a combing operation other accused namely Amandeep Singh alias Amnaa, Varinder Singh alias Mattu, Saraj Khan alias Suraja were nabbed and at the same time another accused identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Nursi was arrested from Loha Khera village and from his possession police recovered one illegal Italy-made pistol mark 7.65 with two empty magazine and 10 live cartridges were recovered.
He added that during interrogation, it was also revealed that their one another accomplice, namely Dhanwant Singh son of Darshan Singh, resident of village Amru Kotra under Cheema Police Station presently residing in village Bahadurpur under Longowal police station, was also on the run and he was also listed in the case as another accused which took the number of total accused in the case to six now.
