Pursuing leads after the death of Anand Pal Singh (AP), who was listed as the most wanted gangster in Rajasthan and was gunned down in an encounter last week, the Hanumangarh police have arrested four members of his gang who looted Rs 75 lakh during the demonetisation period.Police officials said today that AP’s brother Ravinderpal Singh Vicky and cousin Davinderpal Singh Guddu, who had been nabbed by the Special Operation Group (SOG) in Sherpura (Haryana), headed the gang which looted Rs 75.5 lakh from a bus on November 29, 2016 near the old bus stand in Bhadra in Hanumangarh. Vikas Jangid, proprietor of M/s Balaji Associates, had on November 29 lodged a FIR that he along with an employee Manoj Poonia were carrying Rs 75.5 lakh in two bags in a bus from Delhi to deposit the same in a bank account at Bhadra but 3-4 van borne youths looted the cash at gun point, blindfolded them and abandoned both near Jogiwala village on Bhadra-Bhirani road. The officials said the breakthrough in the case came when Sunil Godara alias Sunny was arrested in connection with a firing incident in Kikraliya village on May 27. He confessed that he was driving the vehicle owned by history-sheeter Sunil Goliya at the time of the loot.
A mobile phone seized from Sunny also helped the SOG in nabbing AP’s brother Ravinderpal and cousin brother Davinder in Sherpura village. The SOG had succeeded in killing AP in an encounter on June 24 in Churu district, neighbouring Hanumangarh.
The interrogation further helped the police nab Manoj Poonia and Manoj Khemka of Bhadra, Ram Swarup of Karanpura and Sunil Sidhu of Dhaba Khurd (Fatehabad) alongwith two cars. Poonia reportedly provided information to some members of the AP gang about the movement of cash from Delhi to Bhadra and the plan was finalised reportedly with his assistance.About 20 lakh of the loot was given to AP, the investigation indicated. More such crimes could come to the fore during the custodial investigation of the accused, the police added.
