Patiala: The local police have busted drug peddling gangs with arrest of four persons including a Nigerian, which were separately supplying the drugs to students, on Friday at Patiala. The accused have been identified as a Nigerian citizen Joseph James and Rakesh Kumar Sharma; both current residents of New Delhi, whereas Sanjeev Kumar resident of Patran town and Kuldeep Singh of Ghagga town in Patiala.
During the arrest the police have recovered 255 grams of heroin from the possession of Nigerian gang and 260 grams of intoxicant powder from others.
While addressing the press conference, Superintendent of Police (SP investigation) Harvinder Singh Virk said that the police had arrested four persons in two separate cases, who were targeting the youth and college and universities students.
Virk said that ASI Gurmej Singh along with police party apprehended the Nigerian gang at a police check post, where the police intercepted their car for checking. Duo were travelling in WagonR car (bearing number DL 9C AB 0564).
However, Sanjeev Kumar and Kuldeep Singh were arrested near PRTC workshop on Nabha road, as they were travelling in their Swift car (bearing number PB 11 BT 3704). Following the tip off the police have arrested the drug peddlers and predicting more persons could have been involved in this trade.
Two separate cases have been registered under section 21/61/85 of NDPS act at Patiala Civil Lines police station.
SP Virk said that the investigations are on to trace out the shipping network of the gangs and the police are also working on the separate theories to identify the customers which are the students of schools and colleges.
