Gangster Gagan Pandit arrested in Amritsar. Local police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested gangster Gagan Pandit, wanted in as many as 18 cases of murder and robbery, late on Tuesday night. A resident of Chabhal in Tarn Taran district, Pandit was also booked in a case of clash which took place between two groups during a marriage ceremony at a resort on the San Sahib road near the Gateway of India in Amritsar on December 11. Two persons were killed in the clash and three persons sustained severe injuries.
A senior officer of Amritsar Rural police said they have also recovered a country-made pistol from Gagan’s possession. “An official spotted Gagan on Tuesday near GNDU and called a team to nab him,” he said. He, however, claimed that Gagan was not linked to slain gangster Vicky Gounder or any other ‘A’ category gangster of the state. “He was a local criminal,” the official said.
The police department swung into action after supporters of Jaipal Singh, who is the leader of the gang of which Gounder was a member, vowed to avenge his killing. A Facebook page “Jaipal Bhullar Aale had warned police to “be prepared for revenge”. Jaipal is the prime accused in the murder of gangster-politician Jaswinder Singh Rocky. On Sunday, Tarn Taran police had arrested the two aides of Vicky Gounder, namely Amritpal Singh Bath of Mianpur village and Lovepreet Singh of Nagoge in Khadoor Sahib, for giving shelter to him after he escaped from the Nabha Jail in November 2016.
