Gangsters, peddlers operating from jails, police “helpless’
Ludhiana – The breakthrough in cases of high profile murders in Punjab with the arrest of four persons, including a gangster lodged in Nabha Jail, have exposed that the gangsters are operating from jails and the role of jail officials and staff has come under the scanner. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and DGP Suresh Arora have admitted that the gangster involved in the killings of Hindu outfit leaders and other high profile cases was operating from Nabha Jail. Earlier also, the police came to know of the activities of gangsters from jails, but no action has been taken so far.The recovery of mobile phones, drugs and operating gangs from jails have become a matter of routine for police and the state government. On Wednesday, DGP Suresh Arora revealed that gangster Dharminder Singh alias Gugni of Meharban, who was lodged in Nabha Jail, was supplying weapons and was involved in the killings of RSS leader Brig (retd) Jagdish Gagneja, Pastor Sultan Masih, RSS leader Ravinder Gosian and others. Gugni was earlier lodged in Ludhiana jail and he was charged with murder of student leader Rajwinder Singh Ravi Khawajke. At that time, Gugni was lodged in jail, but he had contacted sharpshooter Davinder Bambiha for the murder of Khawajke. On May 15, the Ludhiana police arrested aides of Gugni with weapons.The police have admitted that the arrested persons were in contact with Gugni in jail through phones. However, no action was taken. Gugni who was lodged in jail in a murder case and is facing several criminal Cases. Apart from Gugni, the police have exposed the operations of drug lord Raja Kandola from Kapurthala jail. Few months ago, Special Task Force (STF) had arrested NRIs with heroin, who revealed upon interrogation that they were aides of Raja Kandola and were working on his directions. The voice call recordings of Kandola talking to his aides over the phone from inside the jail were also recovered by police. In several cases, mainly of drug peddling, the police got leads of the kingpin operating from inside jails.
