CHANDIGARH: A solemn function was organised at the Samadhi of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh on his 21th martyrdom day on Wednesday. The day was commemorated as Balidan Divas, in which a large number of people paid floral tributes to their leader, at his Shaheedi Samarak/Memorial in Sector 42, Chandigarh. A Sarv Dharam Prarthna Sabha (prayer meeting of all religions) was also organised on the occasion.
A galaxy of senior leaders of Congress led by AICC secretary and Punjab in-charge Harish Chaudhary, leader of the Opposition in state assembly Charanjit Singh Channi and senior functionaries of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee including leaders of different frontal organisations of Punjab Congress, district presidents and representatives of various social organisations, besides family members of the late leader, were present on the occasion.Those present on the occasion recalled the services of late Beant Singh in restoring peace to the trouble-torn state of Punjab during the turbulent period of militancy, they recalled how the late leader sacrificed his life at the altar of peace.
Prominent among the MP’s/Ex-MP’s, MLA’s/Ex-MLA’s present on the occasion were former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, former PPCC president Shamsher Singh, MLAs Laal Singh, Sunil Jakhar, Rakesh Pandey, Jagmohan Singh Kang, Surinder Dawar, Tarlochan Singh Soondh, Amrik Singh Dhillon, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Kuljit Singh Nagra, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, former ministers Malkiat Singh Dakha, Dr Ramesh Dutt Sharma, Joginder Singh Mann, Surinder Gupta, former MLAs Rana K P Singh, Amarjit Singh Samra, Shamsher Singh Rai paid their floral tributes to the late leader
