Amritsar: With a view to make offer world class services from newly launched Catheter laboratory operational, Guru Nanak Dev Hospital(GNDH) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research(PGIMER), Chandigarh.
It may be pointed out that crores were spent on the laboratory however lack of skilled manpower forced GND authorities to launch the facilities of lab to patients.
Dr Sujata Sharma, Director, Research and Medical Education(DRME) of Punjab, disclosed that keeping in view the requirements of residents, a catheter laboratory, meant to undertake the tests of cardiology, had been established at GNDH. However, the laboratory could not get operational due to lack of skilled doctors.
Dr Sharma pointed out that the advertisements to recruit skilled doctors for this laboratory had been released number of times in the past but they failed to get any positive response.
She further stated that finally the authorities decided to seek help from PGIMER , Chandigarh to offer state-of-the-art services to residents of Amritsar.
“A MOU had been signed with the latter just to ensure that catheter laboratory at GNDH delivers best services “, asserted Dr Sharma.
According to sources, doctors who join Punjab Civil Medical services(PCMS) after obtaining degree of M Ch, prefer to leave government service after some time as they earn more in private sector. A Cardiologists is earns around rupees one lac per month while working in government sector whereas in private sector the doctor can four to five times.
