Chandigarh, 17 October : – After giving thumping of votes in Gurdaspur bypoll and waiting for any relief on Diwali, the People may be disappointed with the decision taken by the Punjab Government of tax burden. The Government has decided to impose 2 percent more tax on the consumption and sale of electricity within the municipal limits from 1 November.Even those who have not yet deposit their property tax; they also have a chance to fill the property tax. If they are unable to deposit the house tax, they should be ready to pay fines. Two different notifications has been issue by the Government in this regards. In first notification, issued by the additional Chief Secretary of Local Government, it has been stated that all the municipal councils and Nagar Panchayats in the state to levy municipal tax at the rate of 2 percent on consumption, use or sale electricity with the municipal limits with effects from the first day of November.In another notification, this was also issued by the Local Body department, it was told that the person who still fails to deposit the due amount within the period shall be liable to pay a penalty at the rate of 20 percent from the date it became due till the date of its realization.It was also told in the notification that three month has been given to the person, who has to deposit the due amount, but the Government has made other provision that will be with the ten percent deduction if the people deposit the tax in time.In the same time, those who deposit tax will be given ten percent tax deduction has also made provisions.
