Gurdaspur- 26 percent voting done: Gurdaspur Lok Sabha by-election begun at 8.00 am. This Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat got vacant after the death of Bharatiya Janata Party MP Vinod Khanna in April, 2017. This time the fight is between the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP. Voting will run till 5 PM. 37 percent voting done till 2.00 pmBJP and Congress candidates have casted their votes. By 10 o’clock, 14 percent of the votes had been cast. Further, by 12’o clock 26 percent voters had voted.In Gurdaspur, Congress has fielded State Committee Chairman Sunil Jakhar. At the same time, Swaran Singh Salaria from Bhartiya Janta Party is nominee. Major General (Retired) Suresh Khajuria is contesting from Aam Adami Party.There are about 15 lakh voters in Gurdaspur, of whom 7 lakh are women. A total of 11 candidates are in this election. 30 companies of Paramilitary Force have been deployed and 7,000 Punjab Police personnel have also been deployed.7 Deputy Superintend of Police, 3 SP and Commando Force have been deployed in Gurdaspur district. 52 patrolling parties, 43 check points, 10 reserves, QRTs, 9 FSC, 18 SST teams have also been deployed.
