Patiala: Preneet Kaur had failed to deliver as an MP from Patiala even as she got elected thrice from here. This was stated by Raja Malwinder Singh here on Tuesday while talking exclusively to Daily Post at his Leela Bhawan Palace residence situated at Dealwal village. The palace was spread over 20 acres and had a staff of over 35.
He said that Preneet despite being an MP had failed to come forward with development of her constituency in her three terms and failed to bring even a single project for this area. He said that after she got elected she distanced herself from the people.
Malwinder said that even as he made a sacrifice for his elder brother Amarinder Singh about a decade ago when party president Sonia Gandhi cleared his name as the party’s candidate from Samana assembly constituency area and selected his Amarinder from Dakala Assembly area. He said that when he was told about this political development he immediately contacted Sonia and demanded Patiala assembly seat for Amarinder instead of Dakala. He said that it was he who suggested the party president to send Laal Singh to Dakala and Brahm Mohindra to Samana. He said that at that time Brahm Mohindra was lobbying hard for Patiala assemby seat but he did not want to see his brother contesting from a rural area like Dakala, so he sacrificed his own party ticket for his brother and family.
He said that Sonia questioned his refusal to take the party ticket from Samana assembly seat and he had stated that he was just following the party formula of “one family, one ticket”. Malwinder further said that, “When I am trying to get the party’s ticket from Samana assembly seat and every thing is in final stage, at that time my sister-in-law Preneet Kaur spoiled my party as she raised voice against my nomination and protested before Sonia to get my selection cancelled and get the ticket for her son Raninder Singh.” He said that on Preneet’s protest the party had denied ticket to him and it went into her kitty. He said that, “I took it as my great insult and immediately left the party, which I nursed for more than 40 years.”
With pain in his eyes, he said that he came to know that the ticket was denied as Rahul Gandhi had pleaded strongly in favour of Raninder. But this impression got a hit when at Nawab of Pataudi Saif Ali Khan’s marriage he incidentally met Rahul and asked him about the same. He said that Rahul commented that he didn’t know Raninder and would not be able to recognise him if he came before him. Malwinder stated that day “the truth came out”.
When asked why he joined the SAD, he stated that his only mission was to take his avenge and teach Preneet and Raninder a lesson in Samana assembly elections and he wanted to see both losing the election and so he joined SAD and campaigned against them and “the result is before you”. On being asked about his exit from the party, Malwiunder said that he was attending some function of Punjab Higher Education Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra at Rakhra Villa and at that time Kapoor Chand of Samana passed a comment in my presence that “Dekho asin raje maharaje ethon bhaja te”(We have made maharajas, rajas to run from here). “It pinched me a lot.”
He continued that this reached Sukhbir Singh Badal and he called me to New Delhi. During our meeting he asked me why he had commented like this, then I told him that “I joined your party not to be humiliated by your partymen”. He said that on this reason he left SAD.
When asked about his future political programme, he said that, “So far, I have not joined the Congress. But if the party selected me then I will definetly contest the election.”
He claimed that in Punjab only his brother could lead the Congress to power through his untiring efforts.
