Union Food Processing Industry Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as the civil aviation ministry for giving the go ahead for starting the second Bathinda-Jammu flight from March 25. Stating that this was the need of the hour, the Union minister said the second flight to Jammu would further consolidate Bathinda’s position as a trade and industrial hub.“This will also provide easy access to Vaishno Devi shrine to thousands of pilgrims in the Malwa region of Punjab as well as neighbouring areas in Haryana and Rajasthan”, she added. The Bathinda MP also thanked Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju for start of the second flight, saying the first Delhi Bathinda-Jammu connection was also started during NDA tenure in 2016. “Earlier during UPA rule even the inauguration of the airport was put off what of starting any flights from it”. The Bathinda MP said she had been continuously campaigning for starting more flights from Bathinda. “Earlier the industry and hotel association as well as representatives of the army and Air Force advocated start of the Bathinda-Delhi flight. Later there was a demand from devotees visiting Vaishno Devi from Malwa region in Punjab as well as Sirsa and Sri Ganganagar to extend this service to Jammu. It is a matter of satisfaction that we have moved ahead and now the second flight connectivity to Jammu is happening next month. This will benefit thousands of devotees who had to spend eight to nine hours to visit Vaishno Devi by road and train”, she added.
