Honeypreet’s Bathinda stay embarrasses Punjab intelligence
Bathinda(Rajay Deep) – The rape convicted dera sacha sauda head Gurmeet Ram Singh’s “adopted daughter” Honeypreet Insaan alias Priyanka Taneja, along with a dera follower Sukhdeep Kaur, is now in the custody of Panchkula police at least for six days’ interrogation. During the first session of grilling, Honeypreet admitted that when the Haryana police were searching for her after issuing a look out notice to different states including Punjab she kept herself hidden at Bathinda district. She named Sukhpreet Kaur to have helped her in avoiding the arrest for at least four weeks. The revelation of Honeypreet which Panchkula police shared with media on Tuesday late evening came as a shocker for Punjab Police as it put a major question mark on the efficiency of the intelligence wing of state. After the violence took place in different places of the state on August 25 following the arrest of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, Punjab police conducted consistent raids at various places to arrest all suspects. At different places, numerous dera followers, who pleaded innocence, were also rounded up by the police for questioning.During the operation, at least 30 cases of violence and arson were registered only in Bathinda zone of Punjab police against which dozens of dera followers were also arrested. However, the same police failed to reach out Honeypreet, who was reportedly hidden at a village in Bathinda. Interestingly, the name of former Congress minister Harminder Singh Jassi, whose daughter is married to Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s son, also cropped up in the case. He was accused of misusing the security personnel attached with him to provide shelter to Honeypreet.Acting upon a tip off, when Haryana police raided the sect’s Gurusar Modiya (Rajasthan) dera in the search of Honeypreet, dozens of Jassi’s security guards were spotted stationed over there. Despite getting vital clues and the allegations being loudly leveled by Jassi’s nephew Bhupinder Singh Gora, police of both states bothered neither to conduct raid at Jassi’s places nor to make him join the investigation. Now even after Honeypreet admitted to have hidden at Bathinda, Punjab police are groping in the dark. A team of Bathinda cops on Thursday visited her possible hideout— Sukhdeep’s in-laws’ house in Balluana village— but returned without any evidence.Speaking to Daily Post, Bathinda zone IGP Mukhwinder Singh Chhina said: “Honeypreet was not accused in any case registered with us, so we were not much bothered about her location. Moreover, it is not possible to locate anyone without a tip off. In Honeypreet’s case, we were not having any such information so conducting search at every dera follower was not legally possible for us.”“We visited Balluana village on Wednesday morning but couldn’t get evidence of her stay in Sukhdeep’s house,” said Chhina, posing a counter question: “If someone comes and hide herself at a house in the night and doesn’t come out, how would police come to know about the whereabouts?”Another senior police official of Bathinda district, in an apparent attempt to shield the former Congress minister Harminder Singh Jassi, floated another story, asking: “Why to suspect Jassi only when the dera head’s son-in-law also belongs to Bathinda?” The cop, unwilling to accept the intelligence failure, stated that they were now waiting for Haryana police to visit Bathinda village to ascertain the facts.
