Faridkot: It was an embarrassing day for the deputy medical superintendent of the Guru Gobind Singh medical college and hospital Faridkot on Monday as the contractual staff of the hospital thrashed him in the presence of police and even made an unsuccessful bid to hurl shoe at him during a ruckus created in his office.
The agitated staff snatched his phone and only after the intervention of Faridkot SSP Nanak Singh, who personally visited the spot in his rescue, the situation could be brought under control.
According to information, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences had recruited about 100 security personnel and 200 assisting staff including nurses and attendants for the Guru Gobind Singh medical college and hospital Faridkot through a private company.
The furious staff informed that there was an issue of late attendance which they claimed to be a fault of the hospital management as they all had to get the attendance marked through a biometric machine and due to rush many of them get recorded as late comers.
“As the system being digital, the accounts department showing their late attendance, though it is for five minutes, deducts our salary,” rued the agitating staff. They disclosed that they were hired at a gross salary of Rs 7,200 per month.
About their annoyance against the deputy medical superintendent, the agitators said that he was their nodal officer. And at times he pressurised the contractual staff to work at his home and also in the later hours, they accused. DP
