DP Correspondent , Phagwara (Kapurthala), September 4:- Underscoring the need to maintain a good soil health to bail out farmers from the current agrarian crisis, Managing Director of IFFCO Dr. US Awasthi Monday said that it was must not only for safeguarding the interests of the farming community but for fulfilling the food needs of the country too. Awasthi said that the need of the hour was that the farmers must use bio-fertilizers along with the chemical fertilizers so that the soil health was maintained at its best. He said that besides strengthening the soil health it would also help in maximizing the profit of the farmers. The IFFCO MD was here at a university, where he urged the farmers to use ‘Mobile Technology’, which could act as a major catalyst for their prosperity.He said that already 1.78 crore farmers from across the country were using mobile app of the IFFCO to transform their destiny. He said that through this app, which was available in 13 languages including Punjabi, the farmers were connected with each other and with the national market. Dr Awasthi said that through this app the farmers could buy or sell their produce besides remaining touch with the other factors concerning the agriculture production. He said that this app also enabled the farmers to stay in sync with the emerging trends in the field of agriculture production.Awasthi also said that the farmers have to adopt digital technology for enhancing their profits to make agriculture a more viable venture. “IFFCO was already in the process of designing machinery that could be beneficial for the farmers by decreasing the input costs and increasing the profits”, he said. On the occasion Dr Awasthi also held detailed deliberations with the farmers and representatives of the cooperative society on the agrarian crisis. Among those present on this occasion were Chairman of IFFCO Balwinder Singh Nakai, Director IFFCO Punjab Jarnail Singh Wahad, Darshan Singh Gill, Joginder Kumar, Senior Area Manager of IFFCO Sukhpal Singh Sidhu, Karnail Singh Sandhu, Sandeep Singh Virk and Narinder Pal Singh Bajwa.
