Jalandhar: Aimed at garnering mass support, Punjab Transport Minister Ajit Singh Kohar on Sunday urged the party workers to spread the pension, atta-dal, shagun scheme and ration cards to every doorstep and promote Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s populist schemes for public in Jalandhar Cantonment assembly seat.
Kohar, who took charge of Jalandhar Cantonment seat work from Sunday, also avoided any direct attack on recently suspended area MLA Pargat Singh. However, he did made indirect attacks on Pargat during his speech.
The Transport Minister was here at Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Jalandhar Cantonment at address a worker’s meet on Sunday.
Addressing the workers, the SAD Jalandhar Rural President said that don’t depend on the Deputy Commissioner for getting the pension, atta-dal, shagun scheme and Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojna benefits. “DC is a government official, hence don’t depend on him for providing benefits to public. All Halqa incharges should gear up to provide benefits of such schemes, especially the ration cards should be made on priority. ‘Ration cards bane banaye ghar a jayu’ (Ration cards would directly reach the beneficiaries)”, he said, adding go and tell people in cantonment that CM Badal, has sent these benefits for them.
The senior Akali leader also said that earlier the SAD committed a mistake by fielding an ‘outsider’ (MLA Pargat Singh) as a candidate from Jalandhar Cantonment seat. “This time, we have requested the party high command to field a candidate from within the SAD fold. There are people who come straight away in the party and then leave as per their wish”, he said.
Further, without naming Pargat Singh, the Transport Minister said that no Akali worker would go with him. When asked that many panchayats from cantonment were supporting MLA Pargat, Kohar said, “No Akali is going to join him. ‘Aaya Ram – Gaya Ram te bahut ne’ (There were many, who just come and go).”
The SAD Rural President also asked the party workers to gear up for an SC Wing rally in cantonment on August 5. Besides, we have also appealed to CM Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal to hold a sangat darshan in Jalandhar Cantonment seat.
“In Jalandhar Cantonment seat, only 40 percent development work was done while 60 percent was still pending. We would be distributing 100 percent grant but for that you (workers) would have to prove themselves”, he added.
Earlier Kohar said that he would visit Jalandhar Cantonment seat very week. “I am available for the public anytime. Besides, people could approach me anytime, as and when they wish”, Kohar maintained.
