Amritsar: In view of the high alert sounded in pakistan by its security forces following a series of bomb blasts during the past week, the indian pilgrims had returned to india a couple of days prior to their scheduled arrival. The pilgrims, hailing from various parts of india, however, came back to india yesterday evening where as they were supposed to be back on Wednesday.
During the mid of last week, a jatha of 181 pilgrims, who were provided visas by the Pakistan government, had left for the neighboring country with a view to pay a visit to katasraj temple as well as other religious places of the Hindus in that country. The journey, as usual, had been planned to celebrate the festival of ‘maha shivratri’, that fell last saturday, in that temple. The pilgrims, however, arrived in pakistan on last Tuesday and after halting there for nearly a week, there were supposed to come back to their destinations on Wednesday. The first day passed off peacefully but bomb blast took place the next day Wednesday last), which left all of us scared. Thereafter, series of bomb blast took place during subsequent days. However, we preferred to have our stay put there because we were to pay obeisance in Katasraj temple on auspicious occasion of ‘maha shivratri’ on last Saturday,” stated Rajesh Arora, a local resident who was among the pilgrims, while adding that we were compelled to leave the pilgrimage midway, as we were bewildered over the development. He also stated that the series of bomb blasts in just three four days saw the security forces of Pakistan too on their tenterhooks.
Arora also maintained that after the bomb blasts, the personnel of security forces started following us like a shadow and even misbehaved with us.”they forced us to abstain from visiting some other prominent religious places which we otherwise were likely to visit because this formed a part of our journey”, he remarked. Talking about the holy katasraj temple, he regretted that it had been in asunder owing to lack of its maintenance. Arora further stated that he would write a letter to the union government of India to ensure proper upkeep of Katasraj temple.
