LUDHIANA: Students of second year Fashion Design were given a theme of ‘Upcycling’. Upcycling is the way to reuse the things in such a way to create a product of higher quality or value than the original. In this project, the opportunity with the students to upcycle trash or turn it into new garments was vast. Students were given some rags to make a new garment out of it.
Manika, a second year student said, “We learnt how to use the unused or thrown out dresses in a new way. Now I will not regret over my expenses that I had made on the dresses I don’t wear anymore because now I can wear it a new way by upcycling it and we could not have imagined that our creativity would develop to this extent without even spending much.”
Students of third year Fashion Design were given a task to develop prints and apply that print on the garment with the help of digital and screen printing. INIFD Ludhiana is the only fashion design institute to teach digital and screen printing as a part of curriculum. Students were given the themes based on daily interests like Rock and Roll, Paris, Welcome to the fair, Radio, cups and saucers etc.
Pawanjeet Kaur, one of the interior designer students said, “Friendship is a bond which makes you closer to your friends and family. It starts even before you enter this world same friendship I share with INIFD”, said Pawanjeet Kaur.
Amarpreet Lall, additional director of institute said, “There was great enthusiasm in the students as they were working on something different from daily routine. The projects like these help students learn how to work with deadlines and on the edge which happens in real business of Fashion.”
