Patiala: Punjab vigilance bureau arrested an insurance agent while receiving the bribe of Rs 13,000 for releasing the claim amount, on Wednesday at Patiala. The accused has been identified as Inderpal Singh investigation officer of New Indian Insurance Company at Patiala.
Complainant, Gurjit Singh resident of village Kangthala in Patran stated in his complaint that the accused had demanded the bribe money Rs 15,000 for releasing the insurance of his cows. While narrating the story, he said that he is running a dairy farm at his native place and have 10 cows. He added that around 2 years back he had availed the veterinary insurance scheme of the New Insurance Company and deposited all the installments as the directions of the company. On April 4 of this year, one of his cows died due to illness and the post-mortem report of the cow was submitted with Punjab Agriculture and Development Bank (PADB) insurance company to avail the insurance money.
The company had appointed the accused as investigation officer to verify the claims of owner of cow. In the middle of the investigation, the accused had demanded the bribe of Rs 15,000 to clear the investigation file. After the negotiation, it has been decided that the bribe amount would be paid in two installments. The complainant had paid the first installment of Rs 2,000 earlier and the next installment was scheduled to hand over on 25 May.
In the meantime, he had approached the vigilance bureau and lodged a complaint against the investigation officer of insurance company. Following the complaint the vigilance team led by Sub Inspector Pritpal Singh laid a trap and caught the accused red handed with the recovery of Rs 13,000 bribe money from his possession. The vigilance bureau has registered the case under the relevant sections of Prevention of Corruption (PC) act at Patiala and initiated the further investigation to verify the role of others in the episode.
