The Jalandhar Municipal Corporation became active only after two deaths due to diarrhoea were reported in Makhdumpura area here. The MC got serious only on Saturday when more and more persons of the area were getting admitted in Jalandhar hospitals with similar symptoms. The residents had complained about the mixing of sewage water with drinking water some days back but the MC allegedly paid no heed to their complaints. On Saturday, the MC and Health Departments teams were seen camping in the area.
According to information, Aryan (8) and Ranjana (19) died on Friday two days after they were admitted in a local hospital with diarrhoea symptoms. Mintoo, father of the deceased Aryan, held the MC responsible for the death of his son. “I sent a complaint to the sewage board about the supply of dirty water in the taps, but they didn’t listen,” Mintoo was aggressive while telling this to mediapersons.
Local councillor Joginder Pal Singh Tony told Daily Post correspondent that even he complained about the fault in the sewage system to the municipal corporation, but maybe they were waiting for the people to die. “They just don’t want to work and people’s lives don’t matter to them. They work only when their job is at stake. Two have died and nearly twentyfive persons have been admitted in different hospitals with similar symptoms,” Tony said.
Jalandhar Central BJP MLA Manoranjan Kalia visited the area and took stock of the situation. “I have asked teams of Health Department to camp here for some days so that residents get immediate treatment,” Kalia maintained.
Jalandhar Mayor Sunil Jyoti told mediapersons that, “We are continously spraying medicine in the area. Chlorination process is going on,” said Jyoti.
