Pathankot:A jawan allegedly committed suicide with his service rifle on Sunday morning in Pathankot district.
The deceased was identified as Naik Kuldeep Singh from Dogra Battalion who was posted in Mammun Cantonment, Pathankot.
His body was found lying in a dump on the regiment premises by his friends. He died of bullet injury in his brain. The jawan was a resident of Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh.
A team of forensic and finger print experts were called to collect evidence. It was learnt that the jawan along with other army personnel had gone for patrolling duty early morning from where he reportedly went missing. While other jawans returned back to their barracks, Kuldeep did not come.
Pathankot Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) City Gurpreet Singh said that Naik Kuldeep had gone for patrol duty at around 4 am with other jawans.
“Around 5 am, when all the jawans came back to their barracks, they noticed that Kuldeep did not return. The jawans started searching him when, some of them noticed Kuldeep’s body lying in the dump with scattered leaves in it”, he said.
The DSP said that no suicide note was recovered from the possession of the deceased and his room. “Prima facie it looks like a suicide. The statement of the fellow jawans was recorded, who maintained that till the time of the duty and a day before, Kuldeep was fine”, he said.
Meanwhile, the police conducted proceeding under section 174 CrPC. Following initial formalities by the army authorities, post mortem was conducted and his family was informed. He was survived by his wife and two kids
