Rs 5.30 crore JIT land scam, VB releases pictures of two accused
Jalandhar(Kusum Arora) – A week after the arrest of two accused in Rs 5.30 crore Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT) land scam, the SSP Vigilance Diljinder Singh Dhillon on Wednesday released the pictures of other two accused to trace the case at the earliest. The VB was also probing the role of JIT officials, without whose connivance, fraud worth Rs 5.30 crore in allotting compensation to the land owners could not have taken place. The main accused, JIT Patwari Sukhdev Singh was already arrested and under suspension now.JIT land scam came to the fore in the year 2013, when it bought 94.97 acre land in Surya Enclave Extension for a residential project on Jalandhar-Pathankot highway. From 2011 to 2017, the JIT paid compensation to as many as 416 land owners, whose land was acquired by JIT. The accused in this case had impersonated as ‘fake farmers’ in connivance with a JIT Patwari to prove themselves as land owners and claimed compensation for land acquired by JIT.Talking to Daily Post, SSP Vigilance Diljinder Singh Dhillon said that after the arrest of two accused namely Sandeep Sharma alias Sonu and Tarlok Singh alias Bitu, they have now released the pictures of two other accused in the media. “The pictures of four accused were released out of which two were arrested on September 11. Now, we have again released the pictures of two other accused and sought assistance from public to nab them”, he said. Dhillon said that the JIT has paid Rs 216.42 crore as compensation to land holders from whom it acquired land for the project. “Out this amount, Rs 5.30 crore paid in five cases was given to fake land holders ie fake farmers, who were nabbed by the VB”, he said. The SSP Vigilance also said, “It is for the first time that the VB office has put on display the list of 416 land owners, to whom compensation was paid by the JIT. “The list has been also been on put at JIT office, so that, if any person finds further objections, they could bring the matter to our notice. We were also probing that if some NRIs were also affected in this case they should come forward through their relatives”, he added. Till date, as many as 10 accused have been arrested in this case. A case under section 409, 419, 420, 465, 467, 468, 120-B IPC and under section 7 and 13 of PC Act was registered on October 29, 2013.Notably, the Punjab Government has directed Jalandhar Commissionerate Police to hand over the case to VB. Though, a police probe was started in the year 2013 but the case was left midway. “We are gathering concrete evidence to nail some other JIT officials, whose connivance could not be ruled out. Efforts were on to trace and link main loopholes in the scam”, he said.
