Jobless teachers lift dharna mohali. Airport road remained blocked on Sunday and for the whole day on Monday. The blockade led to diversion of traffic on the busy road. Even villagers and residents of nearby societies came to talk to the protesters to break the deadlock. The police had barricaded the stretch from all sides. Besides heavy police force, other emergency vehicles had also been stationed at the spot.
Also, along with other senior officers Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra and SSP Chahal had visited the spot to talk to the protesters.
It is pertinent to mention here that on Friday, Punjab Cabinet gave nod to issuing appointment orders to 1,337 candidates against 6,060 posts of TET-qualified master cadre teachers advertised in 2015. The government had also decided to advertise 4,183 new posts in view of a judgment of the Supreme Court.
Jobless teachers who were protesting on a water tank in Sohana located on Airport road lifted their roadblock late on Monday.
On Monday, some AAP leaders visited the dharna spot and gave the protesters some food and drinking water. Before this, the protesters alleged that on Sunday police isolated them by barring them from arranging food and other essentials.In the meanwhile, Mohali police on Sunday booked around 150 protesting teachers for attempt to murder after some of them allegedly doused a cop with petrol.
On Sunday, when a policeman was recording a video on the spot, some of them allegedly threw petrol on him and threatened to burn him.The protesters who have been seeking appointment letters and were sitting on a dharna at the Sohana water tank and had blocked the Airport road for more than 24 hours. Before this, protesters, who blocked the Airport road earlier as well, had threatened self-immolation.Besides booking all the protesters by name for attempt to murder under Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the police also took six protesters in preventive custody.
It is pertinent to mention that during the protest, one of the union leaders also tried to slash her wrists, but her colleagues intervened.
