Karnataka man asks Punjabi music channels not to promote gun culture. We all have seen the famous Indian satirical comedy-drama movie, OMG, where Paresh Rawal plays the role of a trader ‘Kanji Lal’ who sues all the God-men from many different religions. Something similar has happened in real as well, but this time a professor has sent notice to all Punjabi Singers, music producers and companies. Many know about Prof. Pandit Rao Dharennavar, who is from Karnataka but has immense love for Punjabi language. Prof. Pandit Rao Dharennavar’s translations from Punjabi to Kannada are well known. He has translated Sikh Gurbanis, such as Japji Sahib, Sukhmani Sahib into Kannada language.
Although, the professor is a lecturer by profession but he has put on many fights for the Punjabi language. This time he is fighting against vulgarity, alcoholism and over-exaggeration in Punjabi songs. In his latest attempt, he has sent notices to all Punjabi singers, Music companies and Producers requesting them to stop recording, playing or singing vulgar, alcoholic, weaponry songs in Punjabi. In his notice, he also asked them to seek forgiveness for such songs sung in the past by December 15th. He added that if they didn’t then he would move to the court. Signing off by mentioning himself as the servant of Punjabi language and culture, he requested them to resist from singing such songs. We will have to wait till December 15th to know what happens next.Prof. Pandit Rao Dharennavar recently launched a campaign for Punjabi language to be written at first place on Public sign boards and informatory boards. Following his campaign, many Punjabi people came forward and painted sign boards written in English and Hindi.
Professor’s initiative was fruitful as the boards with Punjabi written at first place will soon be placed. Lets see if his present initiative would prove to be as fruitful as the previous one.
