Chandigarh:A day after Punjab unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) divided over selection of leader of opposition Party (LoP), AAPs national convener Arvind Kejriwal has called a meeting of all winning Punjab MLAs at Delhi on Wednesday. Moreover, certain MLAs of the state unit are insisting that LoP should not be force on them from Delhi and they should be allowed to take the decision independently.
Sources in the party disclosed that in the meeting issue of electing the leader of the AAP legislature party in Punjab will be discussed. The party leadership will also take up some other important issues.
Emerged as the second largest party in the state, the AAP leadership, sources disclosed, will also formulate strategies to counter the Congress government on various other issues while playing the role of opposition.
Party insiders on the condition of anonymity disclosed that names of Sukhpal Khaira, MLA Bholath, HS Phoolka, MLA Dakha, and journalist-turned-politician Kanwar Sandhu, Kharar MLA, are under consideration for the post. Khaira is the first choice for the post because of his long political experience while the others are the first timers
The AAP for the first time in the history of Punjab politics will be choosing its leader to counter the seasoned politician of the Congres in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. Many winning candidates of the party have now have been insisting that they be allowed to choose their Leader of opposition instead of leadership from Delhi forcing one on them.
Certain winning candidates have lodged a strong protest against Sanjay Singh and Durgesh Pathak for their interference in Punjab unit’s routine affairs, sources disclosed.
